Last week I attended my first NIA class ever. It was so fun, and if the class wasn't so far away, I'd go regularly. But I'm happy with my video workouts. I have two NIA DVD workout to add to my mix.
Nia Opal Dance Workout DVD
Opal might be my new favorite. Unlike NIA unplugged, which is to drums, Opal uses inspiring music to focus on flow, sweeps, floating moves and spirals. Nia Co-Founder Debbie Rosas leads it, and the camera shows her in front of a mirror so her moves are easy to follow. The focus of Opal is on balancing yin (feminine) and yang (masculine) energy. Opal is filled with graceful and powerful moves Sensory IQ, Body Awareness, Stances, Kicks, turns, rhythmic and lateral Traveling Steps, FreeDance, and Hand and Arm Techniques.

Nia Sanjana Dance Workout DVD
My other new NIA DVD is called Sanjana - and it's fabulous too. It comes with the focus of dynamic ease. Can you beat that? Learn to move in the zone - with just the right amount of exertion. Sanjana is filled with rhythmic Steps, grounded Stances, power packed Kicks and expressive Hand Techniques. It's a bit more rhythmic and power-oriented than Opal but not as much as NIA Unplugged. Nia Co-Founder Debbie Rosas leads this class too.

Nia Unplugged Dance Workout DVD
Could you use some toning, energizing, and a whole lot of fun? Then get the Nia Unplugged DVD, plug it in, and start moving. It’s intermediate level Nia which is a great place to start – if you don’t insist on doing it exactly right. Fumble along and have fun and feel your energies build. Are you a little uncomfortable wagging your tail like they do? I promise you, your internal organs are thanking you for the massage. Are the vocalizations unnatural to you? I’m with you there, but I’m getting over it and getting into it. Be sure to notice the rapture on the dancer’s faces. I haven’t quite reached their level of pure joy yet, but I’m getting there. I always end up way happier, freer...and more fit...than when I started.

Global Unity Dance Workout DVD
If you have the same thing for breakfast every morning, Nia Unplugged is all you need for a fabulous new workout. But if you like a little variety, get the Global Unity DVD too. This is longer than Nia Unplugged and provides some instruction and floor play before it unleashes you into dance discovery.
